Having a successful eCommerce fulfilment process if key to keeping customers happy and growing your business. Each step relies on the previous, and so delays and fallbacks in the fulfilment method can leave you with long-standing issues and potential loss of revenue. So how do you keep everything in shape?

Storage:

One of the first steps before any distribution is the storage of goods and products. This may seem like a step unrelated to the distribution of products, but it is the step that can lead to the longest delays if not done properly! An organised approach to product storage should be streamlined with minimal delay. Is everything tracked and recorded when it comes to your warehouse? Do employees know where each product line is? Poor management can lead to confusion, and so it is paramount that everyone knows what’s where.

Pick and Pack:

It’s one thing knowing where everything is stored, but it’s another thing picking and packing each product. Inventory management systems can give you a strong idea of what is most often purchased and what is distributed less often. These items can be stored nearer the top of storage racks with the more popular products easily accessible in the warehouse. Furthermore, it is beneficial to keep SKUs easily identifiable so warehouse distribution workers can identify the relevant goods as and when required.

Shipping and Distribution:

The shipping process is what a customer cares about the most. It needs to be quick and efficient for both parties with a variety of options to available to the end consumer. Are your customers happy to pay for shipping, or are they focused on having free shipping? With delivery times, especially in a much more digital world, many consumers are wanting next day delivery and aren’t prepared to wait days or weeks for items to arrive. We previously talked about why outsourcing your shipping and logistics can be beneficial in a previous article!
